BAGAN AND CHILDREN

In Bagan, as throughout the country, children are adored. At a very early age they help their parents with small tasks. They do not hang out on the streets and are always accompanied by an adult.

Always ready to carry a load on her head while leaving her arms free for her baby, the mother keeps a small cushion on her skull that allows her to place heavy baskets there.

The kids have fun imitating their mother, like the little boy I saw on the Moulmein station platform who, wearing her flip-flops, wore a cushion on his head as he sat on a carton.
