BURMA – LOUIS BARTHÉLÉMY
He arrived in Mandalay in 1870 after a journey that took him through the newly inaugurated Suez Canal, docking in Calcutta along the way.
The city has not changed much since Louis-Barthélémy - Captain Morin - left it. The city map remains the same.
My first quest was to find his house, or at least his approximate location.
I used the map of his compatriot and contemporary, Mr. Vossion, which I found in the papers left by Louis-Barthélémy.
Very quickly I learned that here, Louis-Barthélémy is known as "Captain Morin". I would very quickly have to replace the familiar "Louis-Barthélémy" in my mind for the formal "Captain Morin".
